Our Statistics Show...

It is intriguing to think of the reasons behind certain "phenomena" of food culture. Is it the consumer's taste buds that have changed or are styles of food being influenced by other cultures like the Western culture? We have thought of many reasons behind why chinese traditional food are fast disappearing from our society. But we wish to find out more and confirm our findings. So, we have gathered feedbacks through interviews and surveys, and here are some of the opinions we have gathered from YOU.

These are the disappearing Chinese traditional food that we were looking out for:

5. Handmade Beh Teh Sor/ Ma Ti Su

Through these feedbacks, we wish to find out how much Singaporeans know about Chinese traditional food, especially the fast disappearing ones. At first, we had expected more people to have a good understanding on traditional food. However, what we got was surprising. From the responses we got from 50 people, from which most consisting of adults in their 30s to 40s, we found out that only a few know about these fast disappearing traditional food!

7 out of 50 people knew about at least one of the food as stated above.

Only 1 56-year-old knew about the story behind the food item, and stated that he had seen the Chin Deh being given out to guests on weddings as it represents success.

We sincerely thank each and every one of you that have contributed to our findings as they have gave us and the others a deeper understanding of some chinese traditional food that are fast disappearing from us. Hope that you enjoyed reading our writings! Feel free to comment on this and give us your take on this!
